Memory of a Forest, Time Space Existence
Venice 2023, Architecture Biennial, European Cultural Centre, Palazzo Mora.
I was invited to take part in the 2023 Architecture Biennial, Time, Space, Existence. I used the same attic space again.
This piece Memory of a Forest consisted of 45 cylinders, made of hessian, sisal, hemp, linen, paper.
Particular trees when placed in water transform from being pliable and porous to rock hard. In the 5th century when people started taking shelter in the Lagoon, they placed logs from the forests into the water forming the foundations for houses.
Over time millions of trees were used creating houses, structures, connecting islands. Venice emerged formed on an invisible forest.
This piece honours the people and the forests.
